Winter Wetlands

wetlands marsh frozen over in the winter

I took this picture standing on the solid ground and looking out at wetlands marsh in winter. It looks like a frozen prairie landscape, but it’s misleading and can be dangerous. It’s a wetlands marsh here in the Midwest with spongy soil and water below layers of snow.

I look out at the wetlands in the blustery wind and light snowfall, and I imagine green grass and reeds, song birds in full chorus and toads croaking in the spring and summer months.

I imagine a landscape colored in blues, greens and yellows; not the stark white, gray and brown of winter.

I imagine it as it looks in warmer weather in this photo.
