I walk a hiking trail that rises as ridge by a quarry of reclaimed wetlands. The trail is a wilderness prairie with wildflowers, grasses up to my shoulders in some areas and beautiful views.
Reclaimed quarries never seem to attract a large groups of people, so they have an untouched and really wild quality to them. This quarry is a vast expanse of vibrant deep blue water that shimmers with the end of the summer sun. Dragonflies team over the trail as I walk, while birds swooped above the water.
Looking out on this large blue pool of water that looks untamed, I remind myself that it was once rock quarry that has been returned to nature.
