If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? Yes, because animals and birds hear it and feel the rumble of the ground when a large tree or log falls.
I thought about that philosophical query when I walked past the large broken tree surrounded by other trees in a forest. The image of the stump and trees was reflected in refracted light of the moving water littered with leaves and twigs in this impromptu pond near the trail.
The broken tree is now a home for forest dwellers, and a bench to sit on and rest awhile.
The broken tree is still useful and beautiful to me, a hiker on the trail.
