There are many types of prairies and marshes, and I’m sure I still have new ones to explore. When I read Laura Ingalls Wilder biographies, I imagine one that is wide open and green, sparsely populated with little trees.
A prairie like the one I visited at Goose Lake recently with acres of green plants and open sky. The log cabin I walked by may have been the same size as the Ingall’s family first home. The cabin is small so people must have organized to fit the space. There is lots of open land around it and earth smells different too.
It’s interesting that many people are moving back in the direction of small space living; so history does repeat itself.
