It’s not this time of year without bright autumn sunlight that alternates with frosty fall rains. It’s not this time of year without the tall prairie grasses of green fading to tan and brown.
The sound of crunching dry prairie tall grass beneath hiking boots reminds me fall is fading to winter. The rains help prevent the dry grasses from catching fire. The rains keep the lakes and rivers high and the earth and deep, rich and wet.
The autumn sunlight against the blue sky and faded straw-colored prairie is still a buzz with birds and geese flying over.
It’s not this time of year without moments like these.
