Spring Boats

Springtime signals a time to take boats out of dry dock for captains, sailors and pleasure boaters. Along rivers and canals boats are lined up waiting their turn to travel to their seasonal moorings or take to the lakes, rivers and intracoastal waterway for marine adventures. They wait freshly scrubbed and painted, motors serviced and sails repaired ready to hit the open waters.

Chicago, like some other cities, has annual parade of boats that begins on a scheduled day each spring. On that day in Chicago, the bridges along the Chicago River raise and lower in sequence like annual salute to boaters and sailors alike as the watercraft travels to Lake Michigan. From their entry onto the lake, sailors seek out their berths or begin set sailing to other ports along the lake like Put-in-Bay, Michigan City or Mackinac.

Some may travel through locks and go further afield as their seasonal travels have just begun. Where will your travels take you this spring?
